Our Philosophy

Mount Gibraltar Preschool is a privately owned child care facility, established in 1993. We believe that the early years of a child's life are of the highest importance, which is why we provide care and education of the highest quality.

Our qualified child care educators have created flexible learning programs that challenge and inspire children. Located in Bowral, we take advantage of our lovely surroundings with nature walks, gardening and a number of outdoor play areas. Indoors, our programs incorporate both play and learning.

As a government-approved child care centre, our fees may be subsidised by the Child Care Benefit or Child Care Rebate. We also aim to keep fees low for the benefit of our local families, whether they require long day care, after school care or vacation care.

The Mt Gibraltar Pre-School environment provides a secure learning environment for children, with positive interactions; open-ended play and acceptable challenges - socially, physically and intellectually. It is a happy, caring, child friendly and family oriented environment.

Our key learning areas are trust, respect, fairness, honesty, diversity, caring, responsibility and fun. We place significance importance on children's interests and staff will endeavour to undertake co-learning with children on area or topics.

We have a strong focus on outdoor learning. This is essential to develop self-reliance, learning how to manage risk and feeding children's innate need for risk with reasonable risks to prevent them seeking greater unmanageable risks for themselves.

The preschool provides a pleasant ambience whilst the provision of natural materials offers children the opportunity to explore and be involved in creative and open-ended experiences. The environment needs to be a reflection of the children and adults using the space and offering positive evidence of their presence, their individuality and personalities.

The family, being the most significant part of a child's life, is also an essential component of preschool life. Parents need to feel welcomed, be supported and respected partners in the early childhood setting. Parents are encouraged to be active participants in their child's care and education.

The children need their play to be supported by the provision of an interesting range of equipment, an environment that offers challenges and the time to explore and extend their understanding of people, the world and things around them.

They also need caring and committed staff who encourage them to meet and develop to their potential.

Children need to be encouraged to help staff in their creation of their programme. Children need to be actively involved in their own learning and therefore the resources offered should be relevant and meaningful to them so that they can be successful learners and curious explorers. They are social beings and should be encouraged to seek positive interactions with those around them.

Staff are committed to encouraging children to express their needs and interests by using effective communication both verbal and non-verbal. The staff also have to be able to express a loving caring nature and interact positively with children, families and other staff.

While learning with Mount Gibraltar Preschool, your child will have access to a number of facilities and educational tools. Our centre has both heating and air-conditioning, with a washroom and a cloak room for children to store their belongings at the start of the day. We have a secure entrance, with a large car park to ensure drop-offs and pick-ups run safely and smoothly.

The range of educational facilities available to your child include:

  • A large classroom with designated learning & activity areas
  • 'Home corner' play area with kitchen appliances & items to resemble the family home environment
  • Science space, featuring fish & rocks for children to observe & learn about
  • Toys, puppets, games, puzzles & books, as well as dress-up clothes
  • Natural outdoor playground with plenty of shade & an interactive garden area

Our location is close to local native birds, many of which visit our gardens. Educators also take children on bush walks to learn more about the local environment.

Mount Gibraltar is a member of the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation program, which encourages children to learn about growing, harvesting and sharing seasonal food. We aim to teach children healthy habits when it comes to fruit and vegetables.
